Downloading and MP3 Basics - listening to the class

You can click on the file's name to download the recording of the class in an MP3 format, which should work with any MP3 program on your computer. Most Windows Operating Systems have Windows Media Player. If you're on a Mac, it's likely iTunes. You should be able to burn the file to a cd-r and then be able to play it in a regular cd player. Contact the centre for support if you have any problems.

I suggest to make a folder in your "My Music" folder and call it something auspicious, like "dharma". And then always remember to save your MP3 files there and to take special care of your computer, particularly this folder as it contains one of the 3 holy jewels of refuge.

Understanding the File Listings - file sizes and names

First, the size of the file is listed to the left hand side, and the name of the file is listed to the right. The name is standardized so that we can determine information about it and find out which file we want to download.

- The first letters represent the program and also includes the first letter of the city the class took place
      "FP" for Foundation Program - "TTP" for Teacher Training Program
      "B" for Belleville - "K" for Kingston

- The next string of numbers are the date of the class that the recording was done on.
    It is listed as Year Month Day. For example:
     - January 11, 2006 = 2006_01_11 or
     - February 16, 2006 = 2006_02_16

- Additionally, you will find some description in the name of the file that gives more information about the class.

     - pgs_25-27 : Seeing this designates that the class covers pages 25-37

     - pgs_25-27_JG : Seeing this designates that the class covers pages 25-37 and as taught by an Alternate
     teacher. Here we use the initials of the other teacher. Their full name is left in the MP3 ID3 Tag information.

     - Review_pgs_25-45 : Seeing this designates that the class is a review discussion and covers pages 25-45

     - Introduction : Seeing this designates that the class is an introduction class for the new program.

The file sizes are listed so that you can roughly determine how long it will take to download. Traditionally, I've found on a dial up connection you can download approx. 20 mb per hour. That is pretty slow, so you may need to be patient. If you have a high speed connection it could take anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of seconds.
