What to Expect at a Class
What to Expect at a General Program Class
Our Sunday morning and evening classes are on-going and require no pre-registration.
The evening classes held at Kuluta Centre in Kingston and branches consist of a guided breathing meditation that settles the mind and makes it peaceful. Included within this 30-minute meditation is a brief prayer describing the good qualities of Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism.
The purpose of introducing the “Liberating Prayer” is to help develop the seed of enlightenment within our own mind and to set a positive motivation for listening to teachings.
The teachings are practical in orientation and at the same time challenge our ordinary ways of thinking. Buddha presented a complete path to enlightenment and we can listen to and practice the teachings on whatever level is comfortable.
At the end of the session there is time for questions and answers as well as a brief meditation on the topic. We conclude with an informal gathering and everyone is welcome to stay awhile and enjoy tea and snacks.
Sunday morning Prayers for World Peace emphasizes prayer and meditation. We follow the “New Meditation Handbook” a series of 21 meditations on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment.
Topics such as karma, equanimity, love and compassion are presented. Prayers for meditation are also introduced and they function to set the most beneficial environment within our mind for realizing the teachings.
